Travel time and bounded rationality in travellers’ route choice behaviour: A computer route choice experiment

چکیده

Recent empirical studies have found that travellers route choices deviate from perfect rationality, showing urban trips do not necessary follow the shortest-time routes. However, there is no consent on how much travellers’ choice behaviour deviates rational assumption. The objective of this study to contribute understanding process travel time when making choices, and quantify what extent users are strict minimisers or if bounded rationality observed. question whether evaluate differences in absolute relative terms also addressed, heterogeneity investigated. results experiments, focused diverse OD pairs traffic conditions, analysed. In total, 496 participants recorded 5535 over 41 pairs. It was rather than time. 60.5% chose fastest route, but percentage 80% between rest alternatives at least 30% higher. Only 10% individuals all trips, confirming hypothesis rationality. Participants exhibited heterogeneous indifference bands: average participant indifferent less 31%. A mixed logit model (MXL), considering bands proposed. shows a similar predictive accuracy compared classical MXL model.

Commuters route choice behaviour

The paper reports laboratory experiments with a two route choice scenario. In each session 18 subjects had to choose between a main road M and a side road S. The capacity of M was larger. Feedback was given in treatment I only on the subjects’ own travel time and in treatment II on travel time for M and S. The main results are as follows: • Mean numbers on M and S are near to pure equilibrium. ...

Route Choice in Road Networks - Observing and Modelling Route Choice

Until now transport planners and modellers have little information on the actual route choice in road networks as route choice is difficult to observe. The paper presents various techniques for observing route choice (floating car data, mobile phone data, automatic number plate recognition systems, bluetooth detection) and shows results of route choice observations. Based on the analysis of the...

A micro-simulation model system of departure time and route choice under travel time uncertainty

Existing microscopic traffic models have often neglected departure time change as a possible response to congestion. In addition, they lack a formal model of how travellers base their daily travel decisions on the accumulated experience gathered from repetitively travelling through the transport network. This paper proposes an approach to account for these shortcomings. A micro-simulation appro...

Analysis of inertial choice behaviour based expected and experienced savings from a real-world route choice experiment

In the context of route choice, inertial behaviour shows that drivers make choices that are satisfactory rather than optimal. Consequently, drivers may not necessarily alter their choice when confronted with a travel time increase on the current choice or a travel time decrease of a choice alternative. As a consequence it can be assumed that driver only alter their choice when the utility diffe...
